About Me
I was born in Virginia, and then moved to Arkansas, Georgia and Michigan, which is where I live today. I love the state of Michigan and think it has so much to offer! I like to spend time with my husband, 2 boys and our dog, Lucy. I also enjoy reading, photography, using the computer, jogging, and learning anything new!
I began my passion for education and love of learning when I was just 6 years old and my mother took me to the library for the summer reading program. After many trips to the library and many "stickers" posted on my library book challenge, I learned to read. I will never forget the joy and the love of books that summer brought me. I still love libraries today and can't wait until my next trip to look for "treasure" in the library! When I was in 6th grade I was given the opportunity to tutor students at the elementary level. I was delighted at the progress we made and the ability I had to make a difference. When I went to college the first time, I was steered to the business school and majored in accounting. I went on to spend many years in the accounting profession until I had children and began getting involved in their schools. It was only then that I realized how I was meant to teach children with the hopes of making a difference in their lives and helping them to become as passionate about learning as I am! Thus began my journey into education again as I enrolled at Eastern Michigan University in their post-bachelor's teacher certification program in elementary education with minors in math and science. After several years of teaching, I began to take on many teacher leader roles in the building. My husband was continually telling me that I should pursue leadership because everything I naturally was inspired to do involved a leadership role. What better place to share my enthusiasm and passion for learning than in educational leadership? I then enrolled in Oakland University's Master's in Educational Leadership program. In addition to the coursework taken in the program, I also participated in a 22-month long leadership internship and then graduated In May of 2015. I am currently the lead learner in a fourth grade classroom, as well as a teacher-leader at Dolsen Elementary in the South Lyon Community Schools district. I still love to learn and embrace each new year of learning with as much enthusiasm as I did when I was just 6 years old checking out a new book from the library.

As part of my Master's in Educational Leadership program internship under the supervision of my mentor and principal, I obtained over 480 hours of leadership experiences spanning the Michigan Standards for School Leaders. As part of that internship experience, I prepared plans of work, logs, and reflections for each year of the internship. For more details on those specific experiences and how they correlate to the standards, click on the detailed standard pages below or at the top of the website.
