Taking Care of Ourselves
Artifact: Student-led Curriculum Night - Classroom Tour "Itinerary"
Description: In 2014, I proposed and led the staff in preparing/presenting a "student-led" portion of Curriculum Night as a way to communicate and collaborate with families on our vision of student learning and thinking. Students prepared presentations for parents on the learning and thinking that is happening in their classrooms. Accordingly, this event need to be planned and communicated to staff, students, and families. I also attended the lower elementary Curriculum Night and helped facilitate the evening, as well as organized the preparation of personalized welcome letters for each family to be passed out by greets from the Helping Hands Club.
Rationale for Inclusion and Reflection: This initiative demonstrates my commitment to teaching and modeling for kids how to be independent, how to take ownership of decision-making, and to be "leaders of their learning." Some of the most important ideas we can model and teach our children as teachers and leaders are the skills of being reflective in our learning and how to take ownership of our decision-making.
