Artifact: Presentation on The Thoughtful Classroom Teacher Evaluation Model
Description: "Teacher evaluation" is a buzzword that has all kinds of connotations that go along with it. But when used properly, teacher evaluation is a critical part of the feedback loop necessary for teachers to grow and develop their practice. Teacher "evaluation" needs to include many facets, of which the formal observation is just one part. During my Master's coursework, we identified current trends and issues in teacher evaluation policy and practice. We then researched one of the prevailing teacher evaluation models used in Michigan and presented our understandings to our cohort. Because I am currently evaluated using the Marzano model, I chose one of other three models to research and present to the cohort. The four models we studied were:
Rationale for Inclusion and Reflection: This teacher evaluation model presentation, along with the coursework and my study of the other models, has helped me gain an understanding of the scope and purpose of teacher evaluation. I have learned the importance of using teacher evaluation as a comprehensive tool to foster teacher learning and not just as a tool to measure teacher competence.
