Standard III - Management for Learning
Managing Safety
Artifact: Fire Drill Staff Check Off Sheet
Description: I got the opportunity during my interim principal role to conduct all of our building drills: lock-down, fire, and tornado. I learned that a lot more goes "into" a drill beyond what the classroom teacher observes. Each drill is unique and requires many steps, from contacting local police/fire personnel, to arming and disarming alarms, to state and district required logging of drills and the associated paperwork, and much more. This list is a staff check off sheet used during a fire drill.
Rationale for Inclusion and Reflection: This experiences demonstrates my ability to manage resources including safety. I learned the importance of being prepared and having protocols and routines established for drills and/or real emergencies.
